Mountain Hardwear has built on its expertise with hiking, climbing, and outdoor activities gear to ensure the features, materials, and construction of the AP pants are comfortable and durable. Starting with the material, the AP pants are constructed from what is described as sanded nylon cotton canvas which has a fine texture to it, yet still is stretchable. Although the pants aren’t water-resistant or even water repellent, they feel well suited for outdoor use. Pretty good hiking pants that are made to be durable and the roll-up snaps are quite convenient without being very visible. Having worn the AP pants hiking, biking, and even running errands around town we found the combination of the cotton canvas construction and a loose fit to be quite comfortable. The construction of the pants doesn’t restrict motion while the clean visual design means they work well as a do-it-all pair of pants. Despite the ventilated pockets, the relatively thick material of the pants does make them warm. Particularly on warmer days, the AP pants were warmer than other hiking-specific pants we’ve worn. On the bike saddle, we appreciated the gusseted seat design. There are a couple of things that could be better and need improvement though. The first is the front pockets are a bit deep. It's nice not to have shallow pants pockets where stuff falls out but the feeling is that the pockets on these a little too deep, your keys end up halfway down your thigh. The other thing is that the crotch is cut a little low, making lifting your leg high a little difficult. Therefore we would not recommend them as climbing pants, but they're awesome as all-around outdoor/indoor plants that look great.
